Dowton Abbey & The Cotswolds

Day 1

After we have boarded the coach, we will begin our journey south, making comfort stops on route, before visiting Warwick Castle. Originally developed by William the Conqueror in 1068 from a wooden fort, it has a 1,000-year history of great battles, ancient myths and spellbinding tales. Attacked in 1264, besieged in 1642 and damaged by fire in 1871, the castle has survived the ever-changing fortunes of history.  We will stay at the Castle until later afternoon, when we will make our short journey to our hotel, Walton Hall Hotel & Spa. You will have access to the leisure facilities throughout our stay, including indoor pool, sauna and steam room. Dinner each evening will be served at 7.30pm in the hotel restaurant.

Day 2

We will depart the hotel at 9.30am this morning to make our way to Highclere House, the home of the Earl & Countess of Carnarvon. However, now it is more famously known for its role in the hot ITV series Downton Abbey. You will be able to walk in the footsteps of Hugh Bonneville and Maggie Smith as you spend the day here exploring the Castle and Gardens.

Day 3

Today we will have a leisurely breakfast before making our short journey to Stratford Upon Avon the birthplace of William Shakespeare, where you can spend the day at your leisure.

Day 4

Today we will make our way through the Cotswolds, stopping a Burton-On-The-Water, often described as ‘little Venice’, it is one of the most picturesque villages in Britain. Take a stroll along the river, or why not visit the model village or the Cotswold Motoring & Toy Museum?

Just after lunch we will make our way to Cheltenham where we will catch a steam train to Broadway. Sit back and take in the sights of some of the most idyllic countryside of the UK, whilst reliving yesteryear through the sound and smells of the Steam Train.

Day 5

Our break must come to an end, we will begin our journey north stopping at Southwell on route. The picturesque town lies on the River Greet and is often referred to as ‘The Jewel in Nottinghamshire’s crown’.
