Once we have all boarded the coach, we will begin our journey North, having a comfort stop on route. We will arrive at Paxton House mid-morning, where we will have a tour of the property. Paxton House is an 18th Century County House set in the Scottish borders over looking the river Tweed. You will be guided through the lives of those that have lived in Paxton house, viewing different rooms kept in its neo-Palladian era and decorated by Robert Adam. The rooms house a rare collection of furniture by Thomas Chippendale and William Trotter, considered the largest in Scotland; with the impressive picture gallery houses Scottish related paintings dating back to the 18th Century. You will have time to walk in the gardens and grounds of the house, then refuel in the Stables Tearoom with a choice of sandwiches, shortbread and tea or coffee.
We will leave Paxton House, early afternoon to make the short but picturesque journey to Holy Island, also known as Lindisfarne. Spend a couple of hours exploring the island, and its wealth of Anglo-Saxon history. The top attraction on the island is Lindisfarne Castle, perched on a Volcanic rock, now a National Trust property.
